Optimus Actus continues to support the student placement programme organised by the Cyprus Labour Liaison Office in coordination with local Universities. Director, Michalis Makriyiannis gives his view to InBusiness magazine.
Optimus Actus is one of the selected Chartered Certified Accounting and Auditing firms participating in the student placement programme, an initiative organised by the Cyprus Labour Liaison Office and in coordination with local Universities, including the University of Cyprus and the University of Nicosia.
Under this programme, students studying Economics or Accounting & Finance are placed in the office as trainees, gaining a minimum level of 180 hours work experience.
The aim of the programme is to provide students the opportunity to obtain on-the-job training, become acquainted with office duties and the overall working environment, in turn better preparing them for their career after graduation. At the same time, firms participating in the programme later have the option to hire the students that completed placement at their office if a suitable position is available.
Since 2020, a number of students have already completed their placement with Optimus Actus at their offices in Nicosia.
“It can be a rather daunting experience when a fresh graduate takes on their first career job. This programme is an excellent initiative that allows students to gain real world and practical working experience, and integrate with more experienced peers, thereby helping them to make their transition from academic and student life to the professional arena smoother,” said Director, Optimus Actus, Michalis Makriyiannis.
“The level of the students who have been placed at our office thus far has been quite high, with good and motivated character, willingness to learn and develop, as well as take ownership on actual tasks,” continued Makriyiannis. “As such, we can genuinely say that our office has also benefited. We will continue to support this programme and provide more students such opportunity. Indeed, nurturing new talent is integral for any industry and local economy,” added Makriyiannis.
